For thousands of years, yogis have understood what current research in neurobiology and clinical observations are demonstrating—that emotion, particularly traumatizing emotion, is stored in the physical body.

In LifeForce Yoga to Manage Your Mood, Amy Weintraub, author of Yoga for Depression, guides us through yogic strategies that help us safely release chronically held tension and repressed emotion in the physical and emotional body. We practice:
  • Breathing techniques that regulate the emotions (pranayama and kriya)
  • Meditations that lift the mood
  • Affirmations (samkalpa)
  • Guided visualizations (bhavana)
  • Tones that regulate the emotions (mantras)
  • Yoga asanas suitable for all levels
We leave feeling refreshed and renewed, with ancient strategies to revitalize our practice and manage our mood. Health professionals and yoga teachers learn techniques they can use to help their clients focus, relax, and have greater access to their feelings.

Recommended reading: Weintraub, Yoga for Depression. Recommended listening: Weintraub, Breathe to Beat the Blues. Yoga Alliance continuing education credits available.
