“Intimacy is the song of spirit inviting two people to come and share their spirit together. It is a song that no one can resist. We hear it awake or sleeping, in community or alone,” says Sobonfu Somé, one of the foremost voices in African spirituality.
In The Spirit of Intimacy, Somé teaches us ancient wisdom, ritual, and the practices of her ancestors, the Dagara people in Burkina Faso, which ranks as one of the world’s poorest countries, yet is one of the richest in spiritual life and custom. These practices help us to cultivate the intimacy we each so deeply crave in our lives, beginning by cultivating deeper connection with ourself.
On this journey to intimacy and community through ritual, we:
- Discover the foundations of healthy relationships from an indigenous perspective
- Explore the role of spirit, community, and ritual in relationships
- Learn the connection between sensuality and spirituality
- Resolve conflict in our relationships
- Experience genuine intimacy with life itself
Sobonfu Somé is author of The Spirit of Intimacy and Welcoming Spirit Home. Her work has helped move
African spiritual practices from the realm of anthropology to a place along side of the world’s great spiritual
traditions. According to Alice Walker, Somé’s message “can help us put together so many things that our modern Western world has broken.” sobonfu.com
