This workshop for beginning and advanced songwriters focuses on songwriting as a tool for self-discovery. While Jimmie Dale Gilmore encourages interaction and collaboration, the emphasis is on providing the techniques and motivation to create individual work—exploring what it is that makes songs such an essential and potent part of human communication—in an environment where everyone can flourish. Only a small amount of time is given to the business aspect of writing.
Bring a guitar if you have one. A keyboard is provided. Bring a cassette tape of a song you have written or one that is in progress, if you wish. Jimmie Dale Gilmore is also teaching Advanced Songwriting, July 18-20.
