Lisa Bennett Matkin

Lisa Bennett Matkin Lisa Bennett Matkin was introduced to yoga at age three and became a yoga teacher through private training with ISHTA Master Yogiraj Alan Finger. She has been teaching yoga for 14 years and her classes have been rated as the "best high energy in the country" by Allure. Her teaching transmits her experience of yoga as a path to self-acceptance and spiritual meaning.

With her husband Charles, Lisa has spent the past decade working with physicians, medical experts, and complementary health-care practitioners to create their therapeutic teacher training. Lisa and Charles were founders and directors of the mind-body therapies department at Haelth, a complementary health care center in New York City developed by Dr. William Fair of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. There, they designed a groundbreaking curriculum teaching yoga therapists to apply the principles of yoga to specific medical conditions. Lisa and Charles have appeared on panels of complementary health experts for the American Cancer Society and Us Too Cancer Support Group in New York, and have presented at Gilda's Club Celebrating Survivors Ovarian Cancer Symposium.

Currently, Lisa and Charles continue to teach private therapeutic clients and have developed yoga programs at leading medical centers, including Beth Israel Hospital and New York Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. They have also released the first two in a line of Healing Yoga™ videos (distributed by Anchor Bay), which offer therapeutic approaches to specific health conditions, such as lower back, neck and joint pain, high cholesterol, diabetes, poor circulation, as well as weight management.

Lisa and Charles designed and co-directed the teacher-training program at YogaZone and since 1999 they have shared their approach to yoga daily on the highly rated YogaZone television show on ComCast Network. They are previous directors of teacher training at Yoga Zone and Satsang Yoga, and corporations, including Citibank, Elie Tahari Ltd., Coca-Cola, and Estée Lauder, have hired them to develop in-house yoga and stress management programs for their staff members.

Currently senior teachers at Yoga Works, Lisa and Charles teach 16 classes a week and offer workshops and trainings at all Yoga Works' Manhattan locations. Offering private instruction and well-rounded, challenging group classes as well as specialty courses in therapeutic yoga, couples' yoga, and recovery work, their philosophy of yoga as a path to self-knowledge and physical and emotional healing radiates throughout their teaching.

Lisa has participated in writing, developing, and producing over 23 retail yoga videos and DVD releases. Her Yoga Zone: Power Yoga video was rated number one by Natural Health and she is currently a contributing editor at Fit Yoga.
