Thank You.

About Being A Volunteer Staff Member

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Being Yoga conference, sponsored by Omega Institute. Please read the following information carefully. If you decide to apply for either a volunteer position or a scholarship (it is not possible to apply for both), please fill out the appropriate form and send it back to us as soon as possible. Our conferences are extremely popular and positions fill quickly. The earlier you apply, the better your chances of being accepted.

What We Offer:
  • A 100% tuition discount. As work-exchange staff you pay nothing for the Main Conference, which starts with the Friday evening Opening Ceremonies and ends with the Sunday afternoon Closing.
  • An inspiring, spirited environment. Our conferences are incredibly well-organized and thoroughly stimulating. You can be part of that excitement.
What We Ask:
  • Volunteers are required to work 12-15 hours during the conference. For some people this may mean 1 shift on each day, or 2 shifts on one day and 1 shift on another. Some staff positions might involve split shifts of shorter duration. You might be scheduled to work during the morning, afternoon or evening. Please let us know about your scheduling availability on the Volunteer Application.
  • A few Volunteers will be needed to help with conference set up, and must be available on Thursday afternoon.
Please Note the Following:
  • Intensives: Volunteers will not be able to participate in the Pre- or Post- Conference Intensives in exchange for work. If you wish to attend an Intensive, you will need to register and pay full price for the class.
  • About your commitment: Applying to be a volunteer means that you are willing to commit to a full involvement "behind the scenes" with our close-knit, experienced conference production team. Although this will mean scheduling your personal time around your work time, we believe this commitment greatly enhances the overall spirit and comradery of our mutual efforts. Whether you are answering questions or providing directions at the Info Table, checking badges at a door, assisting with audio/visual equipment, or escorting faculty members—all of which can be hectic at times—we think you will find that your efforts are almost always rewarding and a whole lot of fun.
  • Attending workshops: In exchange, you are able to attend Main Conference workshops on a space-available basis, during the times when you are not scheduled to work. Although we try our best to get volunteers into as many of the classes as possible, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to participate in a specific session.
  • Is this right for you? Volunteers do not register for conference workshops. If it is very important for you to attend specific workshops, or if you cannot make the necessary time commitment involved in our work-exchange program, volunteering may not be the best option for you and we encourage you to register and attend as a regular paid participant.
General Notes:
  • Whether you are applying for a Volunteer position or a Scholarship award, Omega Institute cannot provide, or help to arrange, any type of housing, travel or meals at the conference. All accommodation and meal arrangements are the responsibility of each individual attendee at the conference.
  • As a reminder: You may choose only one option, and apply either to be a Volunteer, or to receive a Scholarship Award.
